Businesses, publishers, and authors have been turning to Diane Kolak at Page 9 Design for expert print and publication design since 2009. Diane brings a polished aesthetic, a love for effective messaging, 25 years of experience, and a near-perfect balance of left and right brains to your projects.
Page 9 Design is a one-woman design studio offering smart, stylish print design with a side of strategic, creative copywriting. Diane Kolak has been designing print for magazine and book publishing, marketing, advertising and collateral since 1995. In 2009 she opened Page 9 Design and added creative copywriting to her service menu. Diane believes that the message is everything—copy and design should be tightly fused to send a focused, effective, and authentic message to your defined audience. While Diane’s experience spans both commercial and editorial worlds, many of the same principles apply to each: attract, connect, compel, sell.
Diane maintains a limited roster of commercial clients and treats them as if she’s on their staff—internalizing their marketing and design challenges and making herself readily and directly available without the bloat and inefficiencies you might notice at larger agencies. When the challenge is vast or requires outside expertise, she partners with other freelancers who are specialists in their fields to get the job done. In 2021 she tightened her focus on editorial and publication design, launching design packages that offer publishers and authors an affordable option for bringing their books to market with a professional image.
Diane enjoys working from a vintage desk in a window-lined office in her Midcentury Modern home in Traverse City, Michigan. She loves playing the French horn, sewing all kinds of things, sketching, hunting for vintage goods, walking her English Shepherd, planting native gardens, and attempting to speak Spanish and Swedish.
